Prof. M.M.D.R. Deegahawatura Assumed Duties as Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences

Prof. M.M.D.R. Deegahawatura officially assumed duties as the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, with effect from 07th June 2026.

The ceremony of assumption of duties was held at the Faculty premises on 08th June 20026, with the participation of the Maha Sanga, Vice Chancellor, the Registrar, the former Dean, the Heads of Departments, academic and non-academic staff members, the Librarian, representatives of the University administration, and other distinguished invitees.

The event commenced with religious observances and blessings. Members of the Maha Sangha invoked blessings and conveyed their best wishes to Prof. Deegahawatura as he commenced his tenure as Dean.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice Chancellor congratulated Prof. Deegahawatura on his appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the Faculty towards greater academic and institutional achievements. The Vice Chancellor also acknowledged the valuable contributions of the outgoing Dean, Prof. L.D.R.D. Perera, and thanked him for his dedicated service and leadership over the past nine years.

Prof. Perera reflected on the Faculty’s progress and achievements during his tenure and extended his best wishes to the incoming Dean. He expressed confidence that the Faculty would continue its journey of growth and excellence under the new leadership.

In his address, Prof. Deegahawatura expressed his gratitude for the trust and confidence placed in him. He acknowledged the contributions of his predecessors and emphasized his commitment to building upon the strong foundation established by the Faculty over the years. He further highlighted the importance of academic excellence, research and innovation, quality assurance, student development, and collaborative engagement in achieving the Faculty’s future goals.

The Faculty of Applied Sciences warmly welcomes Prof. Deegahawatura to his new role and looks forward to working together towards continued growth, innovation, and excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement.
