ACCEL 7.0 – Sustainability & Digital Transformation Expo 2026 was organized by the Department of Business Management at SLIIT Kandy and held on 24th and 25th of September 2026 at the SLIIT Kandy premises. The exhibition featured a Student Innovation Zone, providing an opportunity for students to showcase their innovative ideas and technology-based solutions related to sustainability and digital transformation. Four student groups from the Department of Computing and Information Systems, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, participated in the exhibition, presenting their software projects and innovative solutions.
Among them, H. P. S. Chandira and O. P. T. P. Pathirana won first place and the Gold Medal for their project, “Spendly”, a mobile application that simplifies personal expense tracking. Users can upload photographs of bills, and the application automatically identifies expense categories and records relevant details. This helps users reduce manual data entry, monitor their monthly spending, and manage their finances more effectively.
Another project presented by the students was “MicroLearn”, developed by H. B. M. H. S. Mahagedara and H. G. R. I. Handapangoda. It is an AI-assisted mobile learning application that makes learning more interactive through short educational videos, an AI chatbot, and AI generated quizzes. The application also adapts content according to users' age groups and includes features such as experience points, leaderboards, and learning streaks to encourage continuous learning. The application was developed using Flutter, Dart, and Supabase.
The students also presented “mMystiq”, developed by W. S. R. Fernando. This project is a movie and TV series discovery platform that allows users to search for movies and TV shows, explore detailed content information, create watchlists, and access streaming content. The platform was developed using modern web technologies, including Next.js, Express.js, TypeScript, Cloudflare D1, MongoDB, and HLS.js, providing users with a convenient way to discover and manage their entertainment preferences.
The fourth project was “Zonely”, developed by T. K. S. A. Peiris and P. G. D. S. Thennakoon. It is a context-aware mobile application designed to support digital wellbeing and improve productivity by adapting to users' surroundings. The application offers different modes for locations such as Home, School, Library, and Gym, along with features including Do Not Disturb activation, Pomodoro tools, ambient focus audio, academic timetables, pre-class notifications, flashcards, a hydration tracker, and a workout timer. It also prioritises user privacy by processing location information on the device without uploading raw GPS data to the cloud.
The students received guidance and support from the academic staff of the Department of Computing and Information Systems throughout their project development and participation in the exhibition. Special appreciation is extended to Prof. V. G. T. N. Vidanagama, Senior Treasurer of ACISS and Associate Professor in the Department of Computing and Information Systems; Mrs. R. P. T. H. Gunasekara, Senior Committee Member of ACISS and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computing and Information Systems, and Dr. (Mrs.) B. Munasinghe, Head of the Department of Computing and Information Systems, for their encouragement and support. The contributions of the other lecturers who supported the students are also gratefully acknowledged.
The Faculty of Applied Sciences congratulates H. P. S. Chandira and O. P. T. P. Pathirana on winning first place and the Gold Medal at ACCEL 7.0 – Sustainability & Digital Transformation Expo 2026. The Faculty also appreciates the efforts of all four student groups for presenting their projects and representing the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka at the exhibition. Their participation reflects the creativity, technical knowledge, and commitment of the students to developing practical technology-based solutions. The Faculty wishes all the students continued success in their academic and professional journeys.
