Faculty of Applied Sciences Celebrates Its Graduates at the 21st General Convocation

The 21st General Convocation of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka was held on 22 and 23 July 2026 at the Pandith Amaradewa Auditorium, Kuliyapitiya, Sri Lanka. The Convocation marked the conferment of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Philosophy (MPhil), and Bachelor’s degrees (Academic Year 2019/2020) upon eligible graduands and postgraduands.

The graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Applied Sciences was held on 22 July 2026 in the distinguished presence of the Chancellor, Dr. P. A. Kiriwandeniya; the Vice-Chancellor, Professor E. M. P. Ekanayaka; and the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Professor M. M. D. R. Degahawathura. Academic and administrative staff members, distinguished guests, parents, and well-wishers joined the occasion to celebrate the graduates’ achievements.

The Convocation Address, titled “Beyond Knowledge: The Dawn of the Wisdom Worker,” was delivered by Mr. Thushara Kawdawatta, Managing Director of Sysco LABS. In his address, he highlighted the transformation of the modern workplace through artificial intelligence and encouraged graduates to progress from being conventional knowledge workers to becoming “wisdom workers.” He emphasised that future professionals must combine technological capabilities with uniquely human qualities such as ethical judgment, empathy, creativity, and responsible decision-making. The address also encouraged graduates to think beyond geographical limitations, embrace innovation, and create value for society and the wider world. Its concluding message, “Do not fear the fire. Be the spark,” inspired the graduates to face change confidently and contribute meaningfully to an increasingly technology-driven future.

The Faculty of Applied Sciences extends warm congratulations to the graduates of the BSc Special Degree programs in Computer Science, Applied Electronics, Industrial Management, Mathematics and Mathematical Modeling, as well as to all BSc Joint Major Degree and BSc General Degree graduates.
