The Faculty of Applied Sciences of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka formally welcomed the students of its 2024/2025 intake at an inaugural ceremony held on Monday, 3 August 2026, at the Pandith Amaradeva Auditorium. New entrants attended the occasion together with their parents and guardians, joining members of the university community to mark the beginning of their academic journey.
The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp. The observance brought together Prof. E.M.P. Ekanayaka, Vice-Chancellor; Prof. M.M.D.R. Deegahawature, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences; Mr. W.A.D. Chithrananda, Registrar; Heads of Departments of the Faculty; the Head of the Department of English Language Teaching; Mr. Supun Adikari, the Guest Speaker ; Dr. (Mrs.) B. Munasinghe, Coordinator of the Orientation Programme; Mr. M. Piyathilaka, Deputy Registrar of the Faculty; and a representative of the new student intake.
Prof. M.M.D.R. Deegahawature delivered the welcome address and extended a warm greeting to the incoming students. The program continued with addresses by Prof. E.M.P. Ekanayaka and Mr. W.A.D. Chithrananda. Mr. Supun Adikari, a Senior Lawyer and Senior Counsel in criminal and civil law, former Kurunegala Zonal Vice President of the Bar Association, and former Council Member of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, also addressed the gathering as the invited guest speaker.
The inaugural ceremony provided a warm welcome to the newest members of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and introduced students and their families to the university community. It marked an important first step as the new entrants began their academic and personal development at Wayamba University of Sri Lanka.
