Department of Mathematical Sciences is one of the most important Department in the Faculty of Applied Sciences.The Department of Mathematical Sciences commenced the academic activities in 1996, which is the oldest Department in the Faculty.Around 30-40 students enrolling in the courses every year.

Our Mission To provide undergraduate education with research and application programs to produce competent innovative graduates to perform effectively and efficiently in the manufacturing and service industry. Our Objectives Logical and creative thinking are the fundamental approaches for effective and efficient problem solving for continual improvement. Any student who wishes to obtain knowledge in any subject should thoroughly practice the above approaches. Therefore, the main objective of the Department of Mathematical Sciences is to develop thinking power to obtain the required outcomes intended from any system. To achieve the above objectives the department offers Mathematics & Mathematical Modeling and Statistics subject areas. These subject areas will include secure communication, actuarial science leading to insurance and banking, data analysis, sampling methods,design of experiments, linear and integer programming to enhance productivity. |
Head's Message Welcome to the Department of Mathematical Sciences in the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka. Our department is the oldest Department in the Faulty of Applied Sciences which was commenced in 1996. We offer two subject areas, one in Mathematics & Mathematical Modelling, the other in Statistics, together with a number of computer based practical. These subject areas will include sampling methods, designing experiments, linear and integer programming, actuarial science leading to insurance etc. Mathematics and Statistics underpin almost every aspect of today’s society. Whether it is technology, business, science, social science or education, mathematics and statistics are used. Academic staff of the Department of Mathematical Sciences also provides research projects in Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Statistics for the students of Joint Major Degree program.In addition to teaching and research, senior members of the Department have made significant contributions towards the G.C.E. (A/L) examination.Our Degree Programmes enjoy widespread recognition with employers in Sri Lanka. |
